for today’s warm-up i sketched some dead girls
some dumb headshots! i needed to do a dumb/fun character design exercise AND put together some formal references of them for myself for future projects while working on commissions.
some notes!
i tried to flesh these out as much as possible. Somethings though, mainly ear shapes, are purely headcanon (i based ears on their lusi, mainly. Notable exceptions are Equius’ horse ears and Karkat’s (which i just ripped off the way Roachpatrol draws them because they’re really kawaii,) and Sollux’s which i patterned after bee wings.
I’ve bounced around a bit on how I draw Karkat, but mainly i tried to make his features a little vulnerable and young under all that pissyness, which is how i’ve always interpreted him. I gave Aradia (alive here) big dark spooky eyes and hair that’d tend towards poofy drifty waves. Tavros was a little harder—I tried to base him of Dante Basco a little, but I dont think it quite came across. Sollux is just a skinny cranky nerd. I’ve always drawn Nepeta as a cute little girl but I wanted to bring out more feline features in her. I tried to make Kanaya super polished for obvious reasons. Terezi and Vriska were much more interesting—they’re a studiy in contrasts and compliments. They have similar face shapes and features but where Terezi is neat and well brushed, if not as heavily styled as Kanaya, whereas Vriska is all tangled hair and bruises. Her horns are scraped and notched and her cheeks hollow, clothes poorly fitting. Terezi is a scalpel, Vriska is a rusted sword. (I spent way too much time thinking about this.) Equius is just a big doof. As for Gamzee, I just stole the way Wecansexy draws him. I just…cant see him any other way. (I’m sorry..) Eridan is as stereotypically well bred as i could make him, from his dumb butt chin to his roman nose. I tried to make Feferi look a bit like Aradia, with her big goggly fish eyes. Also I’m not even gonna lie, I drew them all in order specifically so i could save drawing her hair for last (I have a problem okay)

i really really love kitten legs and seeing mandy’s animated post made me want to do one myself!

so for TCAF i wanna take a mini portfolio of my best illustration work
so far i’m bringing a page of court of queens, this rapunzel, and my audrey hepburn painting, and maybe a wip im working on of kawaii mermaids, but id like to bring a contrasting, environment and lighting heavy piece with me as well. Does anyone have any suggestions or requests? it’ll probably be a few days before i can start anything because right now im taking a short break to let my wrist heal up
